I think it’s fair to say that the effort to “Save Our Police” was successful. Thanks to an active group of core supporters, and the overwhelming support of the citizens of Rochester, our local police department is once again firmly embraced as part of the community.
Those who sought to have the department replaced have been replaced themselves. Three firmly entrenched city councilpersons were defeated in the November 2007 election and replaced with bright, energetic new candidates. Another long serving incumbent resigned immediately following the election, and a fourth new council person was appointed to fill his vacancy.The city has a new police chief and is in the hunt for a new city manager. I think it’s fair to say “The People Have Spoken”.
For now, the mission is over and this website will remain dormant. It is important for everyone to remember that the website can be started up again with the click of a mouse. So can any other website. The people have spoken and they may speak yet again if the current leaders don't pay attention to what the people want. Never forget who is in charge.
